Sure, why not This N95 mask concept was revealed as part of Razer's CES line of gamer-centric products on Tuesday, and it showed up as a surprise entry alongside the company's usual fare of laptops and gaming peripherals. ![]() That's why we're taken by the Razer Project Hazel, arguably the most high-end face-mask concept we've seen since COVID-19 began ravaging the globe. But after a year like 2020, bendable TVs and surround-sound systems seem less interesting than a more pressing category: tech to help people go outside during an ongoing pandemic. ![]() Coronavirus aside, this was not the only concept showcased at CES 2021 by Razer, with the company also having unveiled its Project Brooklyn immersive gaming chair as well.The annual deluge of CES gadgets and gizmos usually tries to predict what consumer-grade tech will look like in living rooms of the near future. Whether or not Razer’s smart mask ever makes it to market, it is yet another example of how companies are now thinking outside the box and on how they can utilize their own unique technologies to offer something useful to consumers at a time when slowing the spread continues to be a priority. However, the company has said it plans to continue working on the smart mask concept and will utilize " rigorous testing and user feedback" to make any design changes it feels will improve the mask’s functionality and performance. In fact, it may never become available for purchase, considering this is more of a concept announcement than anything else. When out of the case, the mask is capable of holding enough of a charge for all-day use, according to Razer.Īlthough Razer has now announced its new smart face mask, there’s currently no word on how much it will cost or when it will be available to buy. To help with this, the mask comes with its own case that uses a disinfecting UV-light interior to sterilize the mask at the same time as replenishing the battery. With lighting and mic features included, it’s probably not surprising to hear the mask is powered by a battery that requires charging. For those in need of a more unqiue look, the mask also comes with Razer Chroma-powered customizable lighting zones. Likewise, there’s a mic and amplifier which, coupled with the company’s VoiceAmp technology, helps to overcome any issues with muffled speech while wearing the mask. For example, there’s a special lightning system that can adjust to the environment to ensure facial expressions are easier to see, even in dark conditions. It isn’t just a N95 medical-grade respirator, but one that’s backed up by various tech features.
